Please don’t leave your oboe in the car

Warmer temperatures and Spring days often mean changes in our schedules as concerts and final performances approach. Maybe there’s a rehearsal right after school or work and you need to bring your instrument with you rather than go home first. It can be really tempting to leave your instrument in the trunk of the car while you go about your day…
Please don’t leave your oboe in your car now or ever!
Not only is your precious oboe (and English horn) expensive equipment that could easily be stolen out of your vehicle while it’s in the parking lot, but instruments can be severely damaged by sitting inside cars.
The pads on our instruments are stuck on with heat-sensitive glue. Over time in a hot car, that glue could soften and pads could slowly un-seat themselves causing leaks and potentially costly repair bills.
In addition, in non-summer months, we worry about the instrument suffering drastic changes in temperature or humidity. Even in the fall or spring when temperatures don’t get really hot or cold, the inside of your car is not a temperature- or humidity-controlled environment, and puts your instrument or the instrument you’re renting or borrowing at risk.
Please, don’t risk your instrument’s condition by leaving it in the car!
